21.05.09; New veterinary certificates for day old chicks other than ratites, hatching eggs, egg products and transit/storage of certain products of animal origin will apply from 23 May 2009.
Commission Regulation (EC) No 798/2008 lays down veterinary certification requirements for imports into, and transit through, the European Community of poultry and certain poultry products.

It provides that the commodities covered by that Regulation are only to be imported into, and transit through, the EU from third countries, territories, zones or compartments which are free from disease and are listed in the table in Part 1 of Annex I thereto. In addition, model veterinary certificates are set out in Part 2 of that Annex.

With a special Commission Regulation Regulation (EC) No 798/2008 has been amended on several aspects.

For several reasons new health certificates for day old chicks other than ratites, hatching eggs of poultry other than ratites , for egg products and for transit/storage of certain products of animal origin will be in force from 23 May 2009. However commodities in respect of which the relevant veterinary certificates have been issued before this amendment  may still be imported or transit through the European Community for a certain time period.
