04.02.09; Rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 lays down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in animals. It applies to the production and placing on the market of live animals and products of animal origin.
Annex IX to Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 lays down rules for the importation into the European Community of live animals, embryos, ova and products of animal origin.
On 6 November 2008 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published an opinion on the human and animal exposure risk related to transmissible spongiform encephalopathies from milk and milk products derived from small ruminants.
Because of that opinion from 22.02.09 imports of certain animal by-products and processed products as mentioned in Regulation (EC) 1774/2002 and containing milk or milk products of ovine or caprine origin, shall be subject to the presentation of a health certificate which corresponds to the model laid down in Annex X, Chapter 2 to Regulation (EC) No 1774/2002 and which has been completed with a specific attestation.
Vetimpleg explains the consequences.
